The Level 2 Award in The Safe Handling and Administration of Medications (RQF) course has been designed to provide learners who are new in the health and social sector and require the underpinning knowledge to address the Skills for Health Common Induction Standards as well as to support learners with their professional development and to understand their roles and responsibilities in the workplace.
Overview
This 1 day regulated and nationally recognised qualification has been designed to provide Learners with the knowledge and skills needed to safely administer medication in a pre hospital environment.
Successful Learners will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to safely provide lifesaving medication at emergency or life-threatening incidents. Topics covered include: common types of lifesaving medication, determining a patient’s condition, guidelines and protocols relevant to the administration of lifesaving medication.
Structure
This qualification comprises 1 mandatory unit with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 8 hours.
Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 4 weeks.
TQT is the total number of hours required for a Learner to achieve this qualification. It has 2 elements:
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH) is the time a Learner is being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a Trainer/Assessor, which for this qualification is 4 GLH (minimum), and
• The number of hours a Learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation and study as directed by but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Trainer, e.g. pre-course reading, which for this qualification is 4 hours
The credit value for this qualification is 1 credit. 1 credit is equivalent to 10 hours TQT, as the TQT for this qualification is 8 hours the value is rounded up to 1 credit
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training.
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 3 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.

Multiple Choice Question Papers.
Certification
Successful Learners will receive a Nationally Recognised Level 3 Award in The Safe Handling and Administration of Medications certificate which is valid for 3 years.
