As the next step for those who have completed the Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF), this qualification provides Learners with a wider scope of practice in pre hospital care emergencies, allowing for greater employment opportunities. It also forms part of a progressive suite of pre hospital care qualifications that lead to the Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).
The Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification specifically designed for those looking to progress their career in the emergency services, ambulance services, event medical sector and high risk workplaces.
Fulfilling the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level E, this fantastic qualification provides Learners with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to be able to deal with a wide range of pre hospital care emergencies, such as: major incidents, fracture immobilisation, sick and injured children, mental health problems and more.
Overview
This qualification should give Learners an intermediate level of pre hospital care knowledge and clinical practice to deal with a range of pre hospital care situations.
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of pre hospital emergency situations.
The qualification is designed to act as proof the Learner has undergone a programme of learning and assessment to demonstrate competency in the area of pre hospital care to gain employment and a ‘licence to practice’ from an employer.
The purpose of this qualification is to prepare Learners to be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective pre hospital care in situations which can arise when providing emergency treatment and/or management.
This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide pre hospital care to patients requiring emergency care/treatment
Structure
This qualification contains 3 mandatory units with a total value of 16 credits.
Learners must complete all assessments/skills tests in all the units successfully to achieve the qualification. The minimum time to complete this qualification is 3 weeks and the maximum is 12 months.
Each credit is equivalent to 10 hours learning time. Learning time consists of guided learning hours (GLH) and self-directed study. GLH are a measure of the contact time a typical Learner will require in direct guidance – from a Trainer – to complete their programme of learning successfully, which for this qualification should be a minimum of 35 hours over 5 days (excluding breaks).
Sessions should be a minimum of 2 hours. Learners should be encouraged to do a minimum of 125 hours of self-directed study, which should include additional reading and may include applied practice.
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 18 years old on the first day of the training.
Learners must have successfully completed the Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) qualification or a recognised equivalent before they can begin the Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) qualification.
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 3 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent
Assessment
Practical Assessments, Learner Work Books, Skill Tests and Continuous Formative Assessment.
Certification
Successful Learners will receive a Nationally Recognised Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care certificate which is valid while the Learner maintains a CPD portfolio and holds a valid Immediate Life Support qualification.
