This regulated and nationally recognised pre-hospital care qualification provides Learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding to deal with emergency care in a prehospital environment where delivery of medical gases may be required. The Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases (RQF) has been specifically designed for those who have a responsibility for providing treatment to patients who need medical gases administrating in pre-hospital care environments, such as: those working in the police force, fire service or private ambulance sector.
Overview
During this half course day, Learners will develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed for the safe, prompt and effective administration of emergency oxygen and analgesic agents. Topics covered include: pre-operational inspections and how to monitor and record its effects
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners through making sure they are competent to carry out their role and responsibilities, in line with agreed ways of working when administering emergency medical gases.
The purpose of the Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases (RQF) is qualification purpose E. Updating and Continuing Professional Development (CPD), sub-purpose E3. Develop knowledge and/or skills relevant to a particular specialisation within an occupation or set of occupations.
Structure
This qualification comprises 2 mandatory units with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 10 hours.
Learners must complete all assessments in the units successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification.
The maximum period to achieve the qualification, including any referrals is 4 weeks.
TQT is the total number of hours required for a Learner to achieve this qualification. It has 2 elements:
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH) is the time a Learner is being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a Trainer/Assessor, which for this qualification is 6 GLH (minimum), and
• The number of hours a Learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation and study as directed by, but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Trainer, e.g. pre-course reading, which for this qualification is 4 hours
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training.
Before they can register on to this qualification,
Learners must have:
• Successfully completed a Level 3 First Aid at Work (QCF) (FAW) or QA recognised equivalent, and
• Knowledge/awareness of an automated external defibrillator (AED) if it isn’t incorporated into the FAW
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid.
Assessment
Practical Assessments, Learner Workbook and Continuous Formative Assessment.
Certification
Successful Learners will receive a Nationally Recognised Level 3 Award in Administering Emergency Medical Gases certificate which is valid for 1 year
