The Level 2 National Award in Safeguarding Children and Young People (RQF) (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) is suitable for those who come into contact with children as part of their working role including voluntary work and those who work with children on a daily basis e.g. teachers, dental staff, nursery nurses, child-minders, foster carers, teaching assistants, administration staff etc.
Overview
The course is designed around legislation and guidance from various departments of Her Majesty’s Government including the Working Together to Safeguard Children: a guide to inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, what to do if you are worried about a child being abused and the All Wales Child Protection Procedure Documents
During this 1 day course, Learners will develop a greater understanding of how to safeguard and protect children and young people. Topics covered include: safeguarding and protection responsibilities, different forms of abuse and how to respond to disclosure or suspected abuse.
Structure
This qualification comprises 1 mandatory unit with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 8 hours.
Learners must complete all assessments in the unit successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 4 weeks.
TQT is the total number of hours required for a Learner to achieve this qualification. It has 2 elements:
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH) is the time a Learner is being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a Trainer/Assessor, which for this qualification is 4 GLH (minimum), and
• The number of hours a Learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation and study as directed by but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Trainer, e.g. pre-course reading, which for this qualification is 4 hours
The credit value for this qualification is 1 credit. 1 credit is equivalent to 10 hours TQT, as the TQT for this qualification is 8 hours the value is rounded up to 1 credit
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training..
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
Assessment
MCQ papers and continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course.
Certification
Successful Learners will receive a Nationally Recognised Level 2 National Award in Safeguarding Children and Young People (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) certificate which is valid for 3 years.
