This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides Learners with the knowledge and practical competencies needed to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The Level 2 Award in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillation (RQF) qualification has been designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities to provide first aid and/or use an AED in an emergency.
This qualification outlines a range of knowledge and practical skills in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely. Learners will practise assessing and managing a casualty who needs CPR and the safe use of an AED.
Overview
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by enabling them to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations and safely use an AED.
During this half day course, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to administer effective CPR and use an AED when dealing with an emergency situation. Topics covered include: CPR, choking, safe use of an AED, using an AED on a child, AED maintenance and more
Structure
This qualification contains 1 mandatory unit with a Total Qualification Time (TQT) of 6 hours.
Learners must complete all assessments successfully within the registration period to achieve the qualification. The maximum period to achieve this qualification, including any referrals is 3 weeks.
TQT is the total number of hours required for a Learner to achieve this qualification. It has 2 elements:
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH) is the time a Learner is being taught and assessed under the immediate guidance of a Trainer/Assessor, which for this qualification is 5 GLH (4 hours and 35 minutes minimum), and
• The number of hours a Learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation and study as directed by but not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a Trainer, e.g. pre-course reading, which for this qualification is 1 hour
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 16 years old on the first day of the training..
There are no other formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent.
Assessment
Practical assessments, Multiple Choice Question Papers and continuous formative assessment conducted throughout the course.
Certification
Successful Learners will receive a Nationally Recognised Level 2 Award in CPR & AED (RQF) certificate which is valid for 1 year.
